Children's Mental Health Week
1-7th February 2021
This year’s theme for #ChildrensMentalHealthweek is express yourself!
It’s so important to encourage and allow our young people to express themselves, we all have a part to play in helping our children and young people be expressive.
Calder High School students have made some images to express themselves about the positive and negative feelings they have about lockdown. We are using these to also celebrate Children's mental Health Week - the images provided by the school are now displayed in the Healthy Minds office window.
Click on an image to enlarge it - then you can read all the feelings.

Youth on Air - Radio Project, 16-18 LGBTQ+
free radio project
We want to bring queer youth TOGETHER, help raise your VOICE, and EMPOWER you with life skills.
Who? For young people in Calderdale aged 16 – 18 who identify as queer, LGBT+ or non-binary.
We encourage involvement from young LGBT+ people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities.
What? YOUth On Air Calderdale is an opportunity for a small group of young LGBTQ+ people to come together and explore issues that are important to them.
Between December – March you will work together to create your own audio piece, this could be a podcast, radio show, radio drama, sound art or other piece of audio work. You will plan your content by attending fun, inclusive workshops in which you can talk about what you care about and develop ideas as a group.
Your group mentor will guide you through the whole process, from researching to recording to editing a final radio piece!
Your final piece will then be broadcast as part of a larger project, alongside the work of other groups of young people from different backgrounds across North West England and Europe.
How? We plan to start with online workshops throughout December and be able to meet (socially distanced) in person in January – February 2021. All activities will be done within government Covid regulations.
If you want to take part, sign up online at the following link: https://cutt.ly/shQUBzX
Or if you just want to know more, please email Georgia- georgia@fieldheadfarm.co.uk for more information.

Collaboration between
Place2Be & Time Out
Time Out/Healthy Minds teamed up with Place2Be and Phoenix Radio to bring you a blog about acts of kindness which was featured on Phoenix Radio this morning. It was an emotional journey dealing with mental health and issues around bullying that her son faced. The author, Lucy Alexander, lost her son, Felix, after years of bullying.
Lucy is now a mental health campaigner & charity ambassador. She promotes kindness and education in schools about the dangers of bullying both on and offline and the issues of how to support people when they need it.
The blog was read by Kim Whymark, a Project Worker from Time Out.

Worry Cards on Returning to Education
Recently, 16 young people came together to create 13 flash cards for students returning to education. The purpose of these cards are to help decrease stress levels on any worries or queries that students might have, especially for those who haven’t been in an education setting since March 2020. Top worries that we believe were the most frequent worries for students returning in September to their educational settings.

15-21st June 2020 - Refugee Week
In the middle of lockdown April 2020 the people of Calderdale were invited to take part in a unique art project to celebrate becoming a Valley of Sanctuary. ‘People of Calderdale, #here we are.
Wherever you’re from, whatever communities you’re part of, we are all united in being in the same place at this unique moment in time. Who are you? What do you imagine? For yourself, this place, and the future?’
A wide range of creative pieces were received from all ages and parts of the community - poems, drawings, songs, films, letters, paintings, zoom calls and recipes!
Together they show the wonderful creativity and diversity of the people of Calderdale - their lives, homes, experiences of lockdown, connections to other nations, and a strong sense of community.
